Granted he is only five years-old. You could posit that he isn't at the 'age of reason', it was a life-and-death situation, and his training is non-existent. Nevertheless, it was an interesting choice on the part of the story's writers--including the director Bryan Singer. Maybe it will be developed in the next 2 movies.
