From what is described in HBP, I'm having a hard time believing that Voldy could have accidentally made Harry a horcrux while attempting to kill him. Guess we'll have to see. I thought the "stoppered death" theory is an interesting one, and it does jive well with my desire to see Snape vindicated as loyal to Dumbledore. As does the "evil Slughorn" theory. I need to re-read the book, but I've been inspired to hit the whole series again from the top. And Allison is in the middle of reading Book 4 right now, so I'm stuck ... That doesn't make sense to me that he would try to kill a part of his soul. But Cliff LIKED the idea for this reason- Harry, the Christ figure, has to die for evil to be vanquished. Yet "highly unlikely" is one of Rowlings' specialties, I'd say...So it's still possible. Perhaps the dark lord did find some way to purposefully (or accidentally?) make Harry a horcrux, and he planned to use Harry's intended death after the Tri-Wizard Tournament to make himself a new one.
